An Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) affects how the brain processes spoken language, can interfere directly with speech and language, and can affect all areas of learning, especially reading and spelling.
Students are often labeled as ADD, ADHD or Dyslexic but never tested for APD. Only an advanced audiological examination can determine if APD is present. If your student continues to have difficulty with reading and language skills and has not responded to other remediation efforts, consider an evaluation for APD.
