Factors common to people with disabilities which contribute to their high risk of substance abuse include medical problems, socialization issues, and societal misperceptions about disability as a disease. The PPP provides leadership, technical assistance in strategic planning, resource identification, and seed monies for programs in community development, substance abuse prevention and health promotion. PPP contracts with a nationally recognized independent evaluation team (the Pacific Institute of Research and Evaluation) to monitor and evaluate the progress of its projects in meeting process objectives and complying with applicable performance standards. The Pima Prevention Partnership coordinates the Pima County Teen Court, People with Disabilities Project, Capacity Building Project , community tobacco use prevention strategies through the Full Court Press and other activities that result in community development, substance abuse prevention and health promotion.
